Course description:
The goal of the course is to equip students with the mathematical background to study
advanced courses, which require abstact thinking and to understand
and write proofs for mathematical statements.
The course will cover the first 12 chapters (Chapter 0 - 11, yes, starts from 0!) of
the following required textbook.
Homework will be assigned every lecture and due the following Friday.
Homework sessions will be conducted on Wednesday, 2:00-3:00 p.m. Jones 131.
You will learn how to use LaTex to typset mathematical document,
an excellent skill to acquire.
Challenging problems will be assigned from time to time;
extra-credits will be given to successful (or partially successful)
attempts.
Quizzes (20 min. each) on Sept. 13, 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 8, 29.
